Updates and help
Glea keeps itself up to date. If something doesn’t work as this guide says it should, look here first, then tell us.
Updates
Glea checks for a new version every six hours and downloads it in the background. When it’s ready, a Relaunch to Update button shows in the top bar: click it to restart into the new version, with your windows and tabs as they were. If you don’t, the update installs the next time you quit Glea.
To check now, choose Glea ▸ Check for Updates…. What’s new in each version is in the release notes.
Requirements
Glea needs macOS 12 Monterey or later, on a Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or later). It’s signed and notarized by Apple.
Common problems
Holding Option does nothing on a page
- Content inside an embedded frame (an iframe), such as some comment sections and ads, can’t be collected. Try ⌥-dragging an area around it instead.
- In a text field, ⌥ types characters as usual: click outside the field first.
A video doesn’t play
Streaming sites that protect their video with DRM, such as Netflix, don’t play in Glea yet. Other video should play; if it doesn’t, please report the site.
A site won’t let me sign in
Some Google sign-in pages refuse browsers they don’t recognize as Chrome. If one won’t, please report the site.
Glea Clipper doesn’t reach Glea
- Open Glea once after installing it, so macOS knows Glea handles
glea://links. - In Chrome, answer Open Glea when asked, and tick Always allow.
- In Safari, check that Glea Clipper is ticked in Safari ▸ Settings ▸ Extensions, and allowed on the site.
My notes are gone
Check which folder Glea is using: File ▸ Show Notes Folder in Finder. If you moved the folder, or a sync service did, choose its new place with Glea ▸ Change Notes Folder…. Notes you deleted are in the macOS Trash until you empty it.
Known limitations
- No DRM video (Netflix and similar).
- No sync between Macs.
- Point and shoot doesn’t reach inside iframes, and an area capture takes only what’s visible in the window.
- Docked developer tools reload when you move them between the window and their own window.
Uninstall Glea
Quit Glea and drag it from Applications to the Trash. Your notes stay in your notes folder (~/Documents/Glea unless you chose another); delete it too if you no longer want them. To remove Glea Clipper, remove it from your browser’s extensions.

Open an issue on GitHub with what you did, what you expected and what happened instead. Include your version of Glea (Glea ▸ About Glea) and of macOS, and the page’s address if it’s about a website.
Ideas and requests are welcome there too.
