Tabs and windows

Tabs sit in the top bar of the window, or down a sidebar if you prefer. Pin the ones you keep open, gather others in groups, and Glea brings them all back the next time you open it.

Tab basics

  • ⌘T or + opens a new tab, ⌘W closes one, and ⇧⌘T reopens what you closed.
  • ⌘1 to ⌘8 go to a tab, ⌘9 to the last one. ⇧⌘] and ⇧⌘[, or ⌥⌘→ and ⌥⌘←, go to the next and previous tab.
  • Hover over a tab to see its address, with a button to copy it.
  • Right-click a tab to pin, duplicate, reload or mute it, to group it, or to close the tabs around it.

Tabs shrink as you open more. Past a point they scroll sideways: swipe or scroll over the tab bar.

Vertical tabs

Choose View ▸ Vertical Tabs, or turn on Vertical tabs in Glea ▸ Settings ▸ Browser, to keep your tabs in a sidebar down the left of the window while you browse.

  • The sidebar runs the window’s full height: the window buttons, back, forward and reload at its top, your tabs, then the extensions, search and the switch to your notes at its bottom. The page sits beside it as a card.
  • Pinned tabs are tiles at the top of the sidebar. Groups show their name above their tabs, with their line down the left.
  • Everything works as in the top bar: drag to reorder, drag a tab onto the tiles to pin it, hold ⌥ while dragging one tab onto another to group them, click a group’s name to collapse it.
  • Drag the sidebar’s right edge to make it wider or narrower. When it holds more tabs than fit, scroll it up and down.
  • Your journal and notes keep the top bar: ⌘D switches between the two.

Pinned tabs

Right-click a tab and choose Pin Tab, or drag it to the left end of the tab bar (with vertical tabs, onto the tiles at the top of the sidebar). A pinned tab shrinks to its icon and stays put. Links in it to other sites open in a new tab, so the pinned page stays where it is.

Tab groups

A group gathers related tabs behind a colored name, with a line under its tabs.

  • Make a group: right-click a tab and choose Add to New Group, or hold ⌥ while dragging one tab over another.
  • Add or remove tabs by dragging them in or out of the group, or with Move to Group and Remove from Group in a tab’s menu.
  • Collapse a group by clicking its name; click again to bring its tabs back.
  • Right-click its name to rename it, change its color, open a new tab in it, copy its links, capture it to today’s journal, ungroup it or close it.

Reorder by dragging

Drag tabs and groups to reorder them, to pin or unpin a tab, or to move a tab into or out of a group. The tab bar scrolls when you drag to its edge.

Close everything at once

⌥⌘W closes all tabs except pinned ones and takes you to your notes, for a fresh start. ⇧⌘T brings them all back.

Windows

  • ⌘N opens a new window, on the web or in your notes, like the window in front.
  • ⇧⌘N opens an incognito window.
  • Closing the last tab of a window closes the window; in the last window, it takes you to your notes instead.
  • Closing a window closes its tabs, and ⇧⌘T reopens them, until you quit Glea.
  • Glea keeps running with every window closed. Click its icon in the Dock, or press ⌘N, to bring a window back.

Session restore

When you quit and reopen Glea, every window comes back with its tabs, pinned tabs and groups, as you left them. Incognito windows don’t.
